Building the Education Revolution

Apologies for the lack of recent postings. We have been very busy helping Kevin Rudd spend his stimulus package in the education sector.

We endeavour to post again at regular intervals from this point on.

Alex and Ahmad have also returned from well earned annual leave in the USA. Watch this space for some choice architectural projects they encountered – a teaser below…salk-20

Designing the 21st Century Street

I recently stumbled upon the results of an interesting competition, aimed at both students (k-12) and professionals, to redesign the street of the 21st century. The competition focused on re-prioritising pedestrian and bike movement over vehicles while creating habitable, interactive and a ammnetiy rich environment within the no-mans land of a typical intersection in Brooklyn, New York.

Streets Come Alive by team LEVON

Some great ideas throughout the submissions such as, subtle changes in paving to redefine ownership and my favourite, moving the bike lane into the centre of the road and letting the car weave around them.

Champion Lakes Aboriginal Interpretive Centre – Call for Artists

In a Ministerial Media Statement this week, Minister John Day has announced the search for artists for the Champion Lakes Aboriginal Interpretive Centre.

In our winning competition design, which is now reaching the completion of working drawings, we have established an innovative  framework for Noongar artists to work with established public artists to integrate high quality art into building elements.  Working closely with Pip Swayer and The Armadale Redevelpment Authority, we have created 3 major public artist opportunities. The ARA are now seeking expressions of interest from such local artists to be involved.  See ARA website for the Artist Brief and artist pre-requisites.

Gresley Abas are also currently seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified builders for the construction of the centre.  For an information pack on submission requirements, please contact Alex Quin.  Expressions of Interest are due by the 12th February 2009
